As a lifelong teacher and learner, I have always had a strong passion for helping others to learn. My research interests are in multidimensional conceptual change in learning science, learning and teaching with multiple representations, using ICT in science education and genetics education.
Born in Hong Kong, I had my school education in China and Hong Kong. I studied at the Chinese University of Hong Kong for my first degree and my postgraduate diploma in education; my other postgraduate qualifications in education were from the UK, New Zealand and Australia.
After 21 years of teaching biology and science in a well-established catholic secondary school in Hong Kong, I moved to Auckland to start my PhD study at the University of Auckland and conducted classroom research in a famous Auckland secondary school for two years. In 2000, I continued my classroom research in Western Australian schools on an Australian doctoral scholarship working with Professor David Treagust from the Science and Mathematics Education Centre/National Key Centre of School Science and Mathematics Education which has recently become the STEM Education Research Group at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia. While conducting classroom research in schools, I was involved in part-time teaching of postgraduate courses for science and mathematics teachers. After I had obtained my PhD, I worked at Curtin University and James Cook University in Australia before I returned to New Zealand in 2006. I have published my work in international journals of science education and presented in conferences in different parts of the world. In 2005, I won the Outstanding Paper Award of the National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST) in the USA.
I am now an online science educator and professional editor based in Auckland, New Zealand. I continue to be a peer reviewer of manuscripts for international journals of science and mathematics education. I am also an invited editor of National Taiwan Normal University's Academic Paper Editing Clinic (APEC). I was a University Associate of Curtin University of Australia (2007-2018). As an online editor, I continue to provide professional support and services to authors in educational research, academic writing, and science and mathematics education. I can be contacted by e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org) or by post (PO Box 96066, Balmoral Postal Centre, 638 Dominion Rd., Auckland 1342, New Zealand).
